A perfect summer resolution

My family tries growing a garden almost every year. It fails almost every time. But we’ve tried to grow strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, tomatoes, potatoes, pumpkins, apples, celery, lettuce, beets, turnips, carrots, peppers, and onions. But we’ve never had a plentiful crop. We might get a strawberry or two, and maybe one tomato that turned ripe before falling off, but we never get enough for it to be worth growing it. I’d like to say it’s because our dirt is too dry, or because we didn’t have to tools to garden properly, but no. It’s because no one wants to work in the garden. I mean, why would anyone want to tend a garden in summer?!? It’s boring, tiring, dirty…

But I was at the store the other day, and I was looking at a $4.99 package of raspberries with like, 10 berries in it! Then I realized that I should put some effort into our garden. You can buy a raspberry bush for about $20, that can produce hundreds of berries, or you could buy a pack of seeds for a dollar at the store.

So, this brings me to my summer resolution. I’m calling it that because I forgot to make any new years resolutions. (maybe I should’ve done to keep up with this blog 🙂 ) My summer resolution is to work hard gardening this year. Because I know the end result will be worth it… unless you are growing Lima beans.
